Living Calabria
There is nothing better to appreciate a territory and its history than immersing yourself in a genuine manual experience. You can choose between different types of courses, from frame loom, to manual loom, to tailoring and ecoprinting.
Our goal is to pass on our history and let you discover and try, through training courses, our traditions to learn to love the truest Calabria.
"A people who ignore their past will never know anything about their present."
“You can't know where you're going if you don't know where you come from.”
"Knowing the past helps us understand the present and build the future."
The ORIGINI project laboratory was inaugurated on May 16, 2024, the day of the eighth anniversary of the opening of the Malìa Lab atelier.
The idea of creating a laboratory that combined production and training has been with us for years and is linked to our dream of recreating a textile supply chain in the area based on the production and processing of the native Ginestra yarn.
The same emotions and ideas of sustainability and ethics, which pushed us to return to Calabria and create our sustainable brand, guided us on this path.
Our goal is to enhance and pass on the textile history of our territory and to recreate a production chain.
The loom will be used with two values, producing and
forming. A tool from our history, it becomes a spokesperson for a change in behavior and vision as a means to reconnect people with the genuine part of the world of fashion.
Rediscover fabrics and textile know-how, promoting a sustainable alternative to fast fashion, to educate the consumer, providing them with both a good and a philosophy and finally a social tool.
The loom is a tool that does not discriminate, from young people to adults, everyone can approach its use without limitations and as an artistic manual tool it also has a strong spiritual and moral value.
The laboratory as a social and sharing place is open to anyone who wants to try their hand even just for a short experience and immerse themselves in our traditions.
The frame is certainly the protagonist of the project, but not only that. Our intention is to address other topics to guarantee a broader training offer and create a multidisciplinary wealth of experience, suitable for all ages.
In fact, it is our intention to carry out additional courses which will deal with tailoring, pattern making, ecoprinting and other artisanal techniques linked to the world of fashion.
Many of these courses will also be available online, with the possibility of personalized consultations by appointment.
Calabria has an ancient history and the textile sector has always been a driving force since the times of Magna Graecia.
Silk, Hemp, Wool and above all Ginestra were common fabrics, quality natural fibers at "Km 0", made and packaged in the area, to then be processed with manual looms .
It is not uncommon even today to have a grandmother who worked at a loom or extracted the natural fibers necessary for the loom.
The problem, however, is right here, from our grandparents, that healthy way of producing and giving value to matter was lost, diluted in subsequent generations until it became more of a memory than a value.
