The laboratory was officially inaugurated in May 2016 and was the synthesis of a journey that lasted more than a year, which began in the Marche, developed thanks to the ISTAO training course, aimed at the opening of new innovative startups and culminated in the return to my homeland, Calabria, where I chose to give life to my idea, creating Malìa, an organic fashion atelier. The idea, or rather the dream, that accompanied me during this journey, was born much earlier in my mind and it took a while to gather courage and even be able to imagine being able to design something similar. The creation of this "all green" line represents the union of two passions, fashion and body care, which I have cultivated during my intellectual growth and a response to various problems that I encountered during my professional training.
The passion for fashion is genetic and is part of me: I grew up watching my grandmother sew, my mother sew and adapt clothes to my thin body as a child.
In my adolescence, this inner instinct was combined with a need to use natural cosmetics to avoid unpleasant reactions to synthetic excipients present in the most common products on the market. A necessity that led me to study and apply myself in the art, in common jargon among other practitioners, of "spignatto", i.e. the artisanal production of cosmetics, with recipes designed to avoid the use of chemical additives and the use of excipients yes artificial, but derived from nature. These two passions began to collide during my career path. Following my academic degree and the professional pattern-making course, I undertook, as usual, internships in renowned third-party companies in the clothing sector.
Unfortunately, the general picture that presented itself to my eyes was anything but gratifying: in a country that has made Made in Italy a strong point, it is distressing to note how discussions on the brand, quality and care are totally superficial. . The poor quality of the fabrics and above all the delocalization of production, recovered and then resold as Italian with various expedients, paint a picture that to define as nauseating is an understatement.
Leaving those experiences behind, with an enriched know-how, I started to think about a different fashion, more genuine, healthy, more attentive to what is achieved and how it is achieved. I like to define it as a "new way of seeing fashion": a fashion disconnected from the consumerist concept of having a wardrobe that is only full and complete in material terms.
Our wardrobe must be a quality container, where we can store clothes created with care, studied in detail, using fabrics that are made with respect for the environment and the body. The logic that should guide our purchases should respond to the concept of "Better to buy less, but buy well."
Furthermore, we often tend to neglect or at least pay less attention to skin care, which is the largest organ in our body: keeping materials treated with irritating and harmful chemical elements in contact with the skin surface, which through pores and sweating can contaminate our skin, it is potentially as harmful as smoking a cigarette or any other careless behavior. The certified organic fabrics guarantee better, controlled quality of the yarns and above all, the production is carried out without using additives and substances that are dangerous for the well-being of our body. Attention for the environment, for the body, recovery of craftsmanship and traditional fabrics, innovating them, are the foundations of this "all green" fashion. We only produce what is necessary, in fact we have no stock, except for the normal samples. I must admit that the idea of creating garments with organic fabrics is not original in itself, as several new companies have started a similar path of using natural fabrics for years.
A fundamental characteristic that differentiates us from most sustainable fashion brands is the "made to order" production. In fact, each item in our collections is created at the time of order upon customer request. This type of entrepreneurial choice allows us to minimize waste, both of textile fiber and energy, by packaging only the necessary items ordered by the customer from time to time.
However, our product stands out for the union of a strong stylistic connotation, which blends with the quality of the natural fabrics and finishes. Combining STYLE, CRAFTSMANSHIP AND SUSTAINABILITY was the challenge of our brand right from the start.
